Order Daffodil Bulbs

These are Rescue Bulbs. We will make every effort to separate the different varieties. This should result in most of them being true to name, with the possibility of a few strays. Mixed Selections will have listed the varieties we have observed blooming in that location. Great care is taken not to damage them when digging. Our goal is to save them and this requires very slow careful work. We will start shipping late spring and stop in November.

Narcissus pseudonarcissus     Lent Lily    old species  1200

This is a very old species Daffodil. These are from a isolated stand that has been growing for 100 years. I have observed a great deal of variations in them with some petals more swept back and some trumpets more straight stovepipe. Also some are blooming later with heads tilted higher. These are a top priority because of the years it would have taken for mother nature and the bees to create some of these unusual variations. All of this lot is from what remains at the site of the Great Daffodil Massacre.

Great Daffodil Massacre Mixed Narcissus Bulbs

All these Southern Heirloom Daffodils are from the Great Daffodil Massacre location. We have observed blooming the Lent Lily, Texas Stars, Sir Watkins, jonquils, and a few Butter and Eggs. These would be perfect for a lawn planting and naturalizing. All of these have been growing in full sun with very little shade from a few trees. The soil is sandy and they have survived a 100 years. You will have a wonderful story to tell your grandchildren about these Daffodils.

Narcissus jonquilla        old species  1612

Very fragrant multiple small blooms per stem. Thin round foliage that can even grow in clay. These are what make the old plantings of daffodils so special. It is their fragrance hanging thick in the air with the concert of colors around them.

Narcissus incomparabilis   (Sir Watkin ? Stella?)   1868 ?

This daffodil has been known in this area as Sir Watkins but I am aware of the debate that it may be Stella. I have to agree with some others in the deep South that it may be older than either. We find forms of this daffodil on some of the oldest home sites. By whatever name this is one of the best. The blooms dance in the breeze and bring a simple elegance to the planting. These have several variations, some with more rounded petals and others pointed. This just adds to the mystery.

Narcissus Twin Sisters             old species  1597

The last to bloom but it is worth the wait. They can blanket the ground in bright white blooms. When you look closely at the flowers you will notice the greens and the brushstrokes of yellow in jewel quality. We are losing thousands to the aggressive blackberry briars every year at one old site.

Narcissus Lent Lily (Fairy)  Shade

These bulbs are from a isolated stand that is probably over a 100 years. They are growing in heavier soil and partial shade. Through the years the ones that bloomed well on less sunlight thrived and increased with the help of the bees. These have larger more up facing blooms on taller stems. They are a good choice for a less than perfect spot to grow daffodils. Shaded on all sides in small clearing with a few oaks they are thriving. We are only moving these because the timber is ready to be cut.
