Gladiolus dalenii ( Gladiolus natalensis ) The Southern
Heirloom Parrot Gladiolus
A rare find but one of
the very best bulbs you can grow.
The Parrot Gladiolus has bright
orange and yellow blooms on tall 4-5
foot stems that can catch the eye of
anyone. Each bloom looks hand
painted with fine lines of orange
running through the yellow on the
back of the petals. The blooms are
smaller than the modern hybrids but
the stems are stronger. We have not
had to stake ours and they multiply
into large clumps. Easy to grow and
you do not have to dig them up for
the winter here in the South ( Zones
7-9 ) This is a rare old species
gladiolus found growing on old home
sites across the South and it sets
seed. Ours start blooming in May and
people pull up in the driveway to
ask about them.
NOTE: We start digging these at
the end of the Summer and Ship in
the Fall.
You need to order these separate
if you want your other bulbs sooner
otherwise we will hold the entire bulb
order for Fall Shipment.
This works
fine as most of the bulbs are Fall
Planted. If there is a conflict in
planting times we will send you a
invoice for the separate shipping
charges. You are welcome to order
these at anytime through the year
since numbers are always limited but
we stop shipping at the end of
November and will mark them Sold Out
for this year when enough orders are
placed.
One Large Bulb $9.00
Three Large Bulbs $26.00
Ten Large Bulbs $79.00

Iris albicans Southern Heirloom White Iris
This is the first Bearded Iris to bloom here
on the farm in the Spring. This is my Grandmothers Iris and her
Grandmothers Iris. Has withstood the test of time and no Southern Garden
would be complete without them. Sometimes referred to as the White
Cemetery Iris since it was planted for love ones beside the graves long
before the time of plastic flowers. Tough and long lived it even grows
in Houston.
I see these planted at the base of tall pine trees
and they are very charming.
Easy to Grow and Multiplies.

RED SPIDER LILY
Not knowing if or when she would ever see her family again, my Great
Grandmother Lee moved here to North Louisiana from Mississippi in the late
1800's. She moved to get married and start her own family. She brought with
her a few Spider Lily bulbs that came from her grandmother's home place. It
was just a small piece of home she was taking with her to this far away
strange new place where she was going to build a future. This was long
before telephones so she welcomed these visitors early every fall when they
popped out of the ground blood red on 18" bare stems. A part of her mother &
grandmother were here with her in these flowers, these magical red spider
lilies that could bring so much love from so far away.
When her daughter, my grandmother, married and moved to her new farm she in
turn carried with her a few of these red spider lily bulbs. She planted
these bulbs under the large oak trees in front of her house where they have
thrived and multiplied.
A few years ago I purchased my grandmother's farm and moved here. To my
surprise early each fall these magical red spider lilies from my ancestors'
past, spring to life and I can almost reach through time and hold my great
grandmother's hand. I am also close enough to my great grandmother's old
home place that I can still see the spider lilies that are still thriving
there also. They are a hardy breed.
