Lilies

Some lilies can be perennials in the South. We have selected ones that are returning year after year even in our hot climate. They are a welcome addition to the summer garden. The perfect place to plant is with their feet in the shade and their heads in the sun. That said now if you are like most of us we have less than perfect spots to plant our bulbs. In the deep South they like partial shade, pretty good soil with adequate drainage and extra water when it is dry. My Orange Tiger Lilies planted by a old plum tree have survived for years without extra water or care. They may not bloom as well in a drought but keep coming back and increasing. Do not miss out on having Lilies in your life.

Our new varieties are chosen for their early bloom and disease resistance. This should prove to be a more long term Lily for the South. Planting them across the South in normal conditions will provide the best information on where and how they are growing best. I encourage everyone to try something new with moderation. You would not want to plant the entire yard in these but by planting a few you may end up with the best Lily you have ever had.

LO Hybrids -  a cross of Longiflorum (Easter Lily) and Oriental Lilies.

Triumphator-LO cross

A stunning color combination on a tall plant that is proving to be one of the best perennial lilies in the South. Huge trumpet-like white flowers with almost maroon centers, spectacular in the garden, fragrant and a excellent cut flower. The Easter Lily has always been reliable in the South and as one of the parents has blessed Triumphator with what it takes to make it in the South. This is the strongest I have found, problem free, and multiplies like crazy. If you plant 30 of these you will have the showiest bed in town and next year you will have people in your yard with cameras. This Lily is growing like Super Lily even down in Houston.
